VINE VOCABULARY

Vine Vocabulary is an activity meant for upper elementary or middle school students. This is a quick activity that could be completed in one session to build vocabulary or as an assessment.

This is a memorable activity that incorporates higher level thinking by requiring the student to create with their new learning. This is a quick activity which is perfect for an ESL classroom or a center monitored by the teacher. It also creates a log of students' learning that could be referred to later.

How?
- A vocabulary word is selected by the teacher or by the student
- Students would be shown mentor videos. Flag Mentor Vine Watch Mentor Vine
- Students will storyboard a video defining the vocabulary word. Students will have to be concise because the video will only be six seconds long.
- Students will use a variety of drawn images or video of themselves to illustrate the word
- Videos could be published on the class website or complied into a longer movie

- A smartphone or iPad loaded with the Vine app
- Mentor texts
- Storyboarding pages
- Paper and crayons, costumes, and anything else the student may want to incorporate into their video
