Fill in the Blank songs
When?
This activity is meant to happen at a listening center, or as a choice during reading workshop.

Why?
Often students, especially ESL students, are asked to sit and listen with the idea that they are increasing their comprehension. Activities like this at a listening station (listening to songs, pod casts, news etc) with a specific task will increase the likelihood of active participation.

This activity is meant to happen at a listening center, or as a choice during reading workshop.
How?
- Students will listen to a song at a listening station
- They will listen specifically for the blank words in the document. They will write down what they think could be the missing word. Different groups could have different missing words.
- The class will listen to the piece together and the missing words are revealed.
Materials?
- Listening Center
- Head phones
- A song (or a movie trailer, commercial, song intro, pod cast or other listening task)
- Fill in the blank worksheet (template listed in the link below)
